XYZ UMC 5-X (The Challenger): Multiple drive & profinet errors
This was a first for us, having never worked on one of these machines before. This is the XYZ UMC-5-X (The Challenger), a 5-axis VMC with Siemens 840DSL control and Sinamics drive.
This particular machine is just over a year old and just out of manufacturer warranty. It had been suffering from multiple drive and profinet errors.
This included 380001 profibus / profinet startup errors, 150202 waiting for connection to PLC / NCK and 2001 PLC not starting up.
When we attended the site, we found a bad connection on a SMC module, a corrupt NC and a completely flat PLC. After carrying out a full system clear-out and reload of the NC, PLC and drives, the machine came back to life. We monitored it for several hours and gave it a clean bill of health.
Who needs OEM’s? We support any CNC machine and any discipline, mechanical or electrical, from brand new to 30+ years old, at a fraction of manufacturer hourly rates.
We specialise in Siemens controls; however, we also support all other controls on any machine tool.
Control CNC Services Ltd. has lots of genuine Siemens parts for your machine. Please contact us using the green button at the top of this page. We can help you book a service, quote you for a repair, or help you purchase the best quality parts for your business.

This week I have been working on a Takisawa T10 lathe that wouldn’t power up. I was able to quickly diagnose the problem as a faulty hydraulic pump.
Control CNC does not stock these units, but we were able to source one from one of our UK suppliers and arrange for delivery to our customer the following morning.

Spindle drive belts are often overlooked as part of routine PM checks.
This Hurco VMX42 suffered drive belt failure purely due to contaminant ingress on the belts, something that could have been avoided.
