Repair of XYZ 1060 VMC
XYZ 1060 VMC with a bit of an unusual fault. It initially started out with a z-axis brake fault; when the emergency stop was engaged, the head fell under gravity and hit the dead stop.
The motor was diagnosed as faulty and overhauled by a third party and refitted by our customer. Unfortunately, now when referencing the machine, the Z axis would climb to its extreme limit, max out on current, then fall out of control down to the dead stops. At this point, our customer decided to give us a call as the machine was now deemed to be in an unsafe condition and unusable.
On inspection, we found the Z-axis reference and hard overtravel switches to be damaged from the previous head crash on dead stops; these were replaced and realigned. We also found the counter balance cylinder to be inefficient as the seals were badly worn. This was rebuilt with new seals and refitted and tested by us.
On further inspection, the Z-axis brake relay was found to have a loose connection, which we believe was most likely the root cause of the original fault, which then cascaded into multiple failures due to cause-effect syndrome. Our customer’s exact words were: “I wish I’d called you in the first place!”
Please call us for advice; we can offer remote support. If we cannot help remotely, we can advise you of the best actions and attend the site to resolve it if necessary.

We retrofitted a 4th axis to a Dugard Eco 1000 VMC with Siemens 828D control and Sinamics drives. This machine had never had a fourth axis and had no interface preparation.

A nice straightforward job replacing the spindle in a Kitamura horizontal machining centre.
The customer had a spare ready on site, so we just had to take the old one out and fit the new one back in.
